Odin & Sleipnir

Some pictures, just send by Christina. Here we see Odin riding on Sleipnir, (the tree of life in the middle is not my work, so is the Tribal sidepiece) like in many Pazyryk tattoos I tried to catch the "galopping" effect when moving the arm. The tattoo is entirely handmade and caught in some first class shots by Christina h2fotografie.blogspot.com

Nachtgetier

Some sleep in the night, others during the day
Some are always awake and others remain constantly sleeping
Nightwalkers in camouflaged wings
Hide their beauty in darkness
Your eyes are close when theirs open up
Carry dreams on their wings
The dark minds of the sleepless
Anger of the restless
Bring them to open ears
To glowing eyes in the dephts of the night
The north star will watch your demise
Unmoved

...of fire and ice...(Gullfoss, IS)

subject: Chinese tatoo?

Can you translate this tattoo, please. Thank you.

It is absolute meaningless gibberish based on this font!

Another gullible individual with "THEO" on his arm.

Sun Tattoo

Sometimes the world needs some colour ;)

Deers & Birds

The deer "the king of the forest" as the germans call it, a very dominant spirit and totem animal, important for a lot of tribes through the ages, the earliest pictures of shamans show them with deer antlers on their head.
The sun wheel pattern symbolizes the strenght of the deer.

Do I really have to mention, that these tattoos don´t have a political background...?

Entirely handmade, pieces like that take a day each to produce.
Why do the tattoos have different tones of black?
The bird on the left shoulder is two years old when the picture is taken, the bird on the right shoulder two  days, deer on the left one day, the bird on the right two hours.
What happen is that especially the handmade pieces need a day to "arrive", meaning the dots are darker the day after. Then they bleach again a little within the next weeks, when the new skin grows over it.

Scythian Pazyryk Ice Mummy Tattoo

...The full design of the Ice Mummy tattoo reconstruction. Again Thanks´n´greetings to you, Hampus :)
The background is a reconstruction of the Hylestad Stavechurch gate, lend out with friendly permission of Viking Kristall :)

The process: The tool used here is an antique tusk from thailand, an ancient style of tattooing.
Because there is no evidence of scythian tattoo tools, we had to use other old techniques from the same period or older from different cultures, so the lines are done with a single small stick, like we know from the stone age, the filling is done partly with the tusk, partly tapped, like we know it from the polynesian cultures.

Pain...

Trepanated skull, Copenhagen National Museum.
Trepanning is surprisingly enough one of the oldest surgical performances we have archaeological evidence of. The depicted skull is from the stone age and the soft, healed edges of the hole indicate that the person subjected to the surgery survived the operation.
Trepanning is performed (still today) as a treatment for subdural haematoma, wich appears quite often after a blunt weapon hit the head.

3rd place Best Ornament GothInkFest

Third place Best Ornamental in Gothenburg with a piece still work in progress. (btw "Grattis" means "congratulation" in swedish :)

Recent works

The wolf, a very popular design in nordic iconography, it always fascinated mankind in all cultures, no matter if it´s Sköll and Hati, chasing sun and moon or Geri and Freki as Odhinn´s followers as the god of war and wrath. The Ulfhednir as "wolfskinned" Warriors proove as well the high respect and fear, people had and have for the wolf.

A mix of nordic and arabesque patterns.......

The Bamberg eagle finished as part of a whole sleeve. Also the eagle was very important to the ancients, in mythology an eagle sits on top of the world tree, making the weather, a falcon sitting between his eyes.
Also the roman legions had the eagle as their emblem.
